The Blue book Q & A

Post by Chris G » Mon Sep 29, 2014 19:30

The “Blue Book” for 2015 will be published soon.

Some impending changes are published through the year via a two monthly magazine.

I have made this posting a “sticky” so it will always be at the top of the list.

Robbo and Vic will try to keep you all up to date regarding changes by adding to this thread.

Please also add to this thread any questions you may have of a technical nature.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(K)Competitor Safety
3 Fire Extinguishers

It is recommended that all FIRE EXTINGUISHERS are serviced in accordance with the manufactures guidelines, or every 24 months,
whichever is the sooner.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10.3.1 Helmet Standards

(a)All MSA EVENTS

FIA 8860 - 2004
FIA 8860 - 2010
SNELL SA 2005 (NOT VALID AFTER 31/12/2018 )
SNELL SA 2000 Not valid after Jan 2015
SNELL SA 2010
SNELL SAH 2010
SFI FOUNDATION 31.1A. & 31.2A.( NOT VALIDAFTER 31/12/2018 )
BS 6658 TYPE A/FR** ( NOT VALID AFTER 31/12/15 )

REASON

To confirm the withdrawal of SA2000 helmet standard from 2015 following the extension from its original withdrawal date of 31/12/2010.

Confirming the withdrawal of the BS 6658 Type A/FR having been published as "may be withdrawn" since 2011.

The SA 2005 and SFI standards withdrawal dates are now aligned with the FIA regulations.

Robbo’s advice

My advice would be if you are about to purchase a New helmet for what ever reason then buy a Helmet spec which has the longest life as possible.

A snell 2010 would be my advice to all and it will also have the head restraint mounting post fitted as Standard ( hans device ) .

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roll bar regulations

There is also a couple of paragraph changes that reference the roll bar regulations ref roof bars and lower sill door bars

Vic has got everyone in line with these regulations and only a vehicle that has been parked up for two or more years may fall foul of these regulations and they are sorted as and when seen at a BCCC event .

Vic (our Scrutineer) has asked me to post two documents into this section regarding the 2016 Blue Book.

I have uploaded both documents as one PDF.

Please make sure you read both pages.

For all offroad timed events listed in the reg P 25.1 you will have to wear goggles or visor all the time with or without windscreen/enclosed cab we are investigating whether this is a printing error or not . Vic

Vic was trying to contact Ian Davis at the MSA for clarification.
I have been told that Ian has been on holiday and unavaliable for a while.

I understand your frustration, but it is out of our hands.

Vic tells me that discussions are ongoing with the MSA.

Good News As the new reg's for UTV competitors having to use FHR devices are included in the same cross country regs as goggles the complete reg was highlighted in red, thus it brought to the attention of the powers that be (and us) for some years there has been a typing error in the reg this will be addressed asap you will not have to use eye protection in an enclosed cross country vehicle unless you want to.
